The Horns Fair cricket match has been taking place for over a hundred years with Ebernoe taking on local cricket clubs. But a change of their tradition saw Wessex Pilgrims C.C. from Bournemouth being invited to take part in 2010.The weather was perfect and the large crowd expectant of the match ahead. Wessex Pilgrims batted first and a steady opening partnership between Nick Birt and Andy Fitzjohn was ended with the wicket of Nick(11) with the score on 31.Clive Johns came to the crease and pushed the scoring along with Andy before he Clive (43) was the next wicket to fallwith the score on 97.Stuart Lanham joined Andy but after a partnership of 22 Andy was Caught whilst on 36 and Ebernoes third victim.Paul Harding was the next Pilgrim at the crease and he and Stuart pushed the score along to 167 before Stuart(27) was bowled by C.Hawks his second of a 5 wicket spell.Trevor, Frankie and Rendy never bothered the scorers in a spell where Ebernoe saw the remaining 6 Pilgrim wickets fall for just 42 runs and a score of 215 with Jonny Arnold scoring 16 of them. During the course of the Pilgrims inning's the traditional Horns fair lunch break took place. With Pilgrims taking the field they though that the 215 score would make it a close game but a certain Richard Stemp had other ideas. Ebernoe put on 97 before the first wicket that of D.Turner (31) with Richard scoring freely at the other end. That was followed by a stand of 108 between Richard and C.Hawks before Richard finally fell victim to Paul Harding with his score on 99 but never the less a fine innings. Needless to say Ebernoe sprinted to the finishing line with C.Hawks 45 N.O. and a quickfire 15 from Matt Scaife and a win for Ebernoe by 8 wickets.Richard Stemp fittingly was awarded M.O.M. which ended ended another well fought Horns fair Match. Everyone who was there enjoyed the day and the events after the game so a big thank you must go to all at Ebernoe CC for our invite.
On a sad note to all within the Pilgrims set up and I know to many of the Ebernoe team this was to be the last game for Wessex Pilgrims for Andy Fitzjohn who sadley passed away at Christmas. LARGE YOU WILL BE SADLEY MISSED BY ALL.
